Sports in Troodos
In Summer weather in Troodos is colder than in the lower parts of the island, on the seashore. In winter, however, Troodos is distanced from the rest remaining of the island – there is snow in the mountains and on the seashore plants bloom and fruit grow.
In summer
In summer months the mountains provide an opportunity for hiking, car excursions, or bike trips. The definitely different landscape from that of the lowland makes the tourists tremendously impressed because they managed to get used to the desert nature of the Cypriot wilderness. It is the best time to visit churches, monasteries and villages hidden on the mountain slopes. Mountain trails are divided into about 50 routes and cover over 200 kilometres. Bike tracks are extremely diverse (from over a dozen to 170 kilometres).
In winter
The winter season in Troodos begins in December, and ends in March, and in that particular period is full of snow and typical winter weather. The area for skiing is located at the altitude of 1500 – 1951 metres above the sea level. There are for ski lifts that function there and constitute total length of 6 kilometres, and ski tracks were named to honour Greek Gods: Zeus, Aphrodite, Hera, and Hermes.
